BIGFOOT HUNTING AND....BUZZARDS???

 Bigfoot Hunting and . . . Buzzards???

MGCParanormal.org is fortunate indeed. We do more than ghost hunting. Some times we get to practice the really unusual:
Cryptozoology....

That word defines serious search for new life forms on Earth. Before you dismiss it as hooey, Sci-News.com publishes the top twenty newly discovered species of animals, plants, and insects in the past twelve months, each and every year. How many are actually discovered if only the top twenty gain recognition?

Two from the 2014 list are a new species of river dolphin (Inia araguaiaensis) in Brazil. Then for the spider lovers among us (NOT!) there is the Moroccan flic-flac spider (Cebrennus rechenbergi) that cartwheels. Weren't plain old crawling and jumping ones enough? Now we have to deal with spiders indulging in acrobatic maneuvers in our nightmares??

So don't discount all those stories about strange creatures you've heard just yet.

Also, we're always asked, "Who are you?" and "What do you actually do?" Going to attempt to give you a little of both with this post.

Called to Marion County, Mississippi to investigate Bigfoot sightings and multiple reports of whoops and wood knocks--two of the known ways this cryptid communicates--the MGCP team conducted a two day, overnight hunt in an extremely remote area. On better than 250 acres that were fenced and under lock, only a shallow, gravel-bottomed river separated that property from over five-thousand even more remote acres. No people, no power, no running water, and how can this be delicately said....  We actually introduced some newer members to the joys of the Portable Camp Toilet. Team member Chris felt sorry for the girls and provided it. (Thank you, Jonelle, for having such a considerate husband!) Team member Martha, who has a unique sense of humor and makes the best of everything, made a couple of short hysterical videos about the experience. Nothing we can share publicly, but more than a month later they leave us rolling with laughter. Guess if you want to see them, you have to join MGCP.  No one can ever accuse us of not having fun.

Each of our members is unique, and contributes much to the team as a whole. Nowhere does it show better than during investigations. Team members Terry and Chris are techie gurus. They can assess a site or situation and come up with the perfect set up to collect hard evidence. Should probably mention Chris also provides a droll, rather British sense of humor, camouflaged under a deceptively sedate delivery. Some of the slower members of the team (Team member Lois raises her hand) have been known to burst into laughter a full five minutes after delivery of the punchline. Usually when she's alone, deep in the woods. Team member Deb is not only a martial artist, she provides support during good times and chaos, and can spot an anomaly from twenty paces. Team member Bobbie has a way of analyzing a hunt beforehand and locks in on any possible needs. She provided easily transportable plaster of Paris kits to make casts if we discovered viable Bigfoot prints, and another time brought maps for people to pinpoint exactly where their paranormal encounter occurred. Team member Martha doesn't back up from anything, and can set up and tear down in record time. She's known for providing interesting commentary on audio, too. Team member Steve has a knack for reading energy (though he won't acknowledge it) and comes up with questions that get a stalled EVP session going again. Team member Sarah has an analytical mind and is turning out to be a natural empath, a combination that provides great investigative results. Investigator in Training Autumn learns technique far faster than the typical rate, and is a sensitive and empath. Team member Lois is known for being one with the earth. Often. As in she communes with vines...wrapped around her ankles. Branches...tangled in her hair. Leaves impressive dents in even gentle slopes, her backside used as an improvised sled. As in Terry declaring, "If she trips again I'm not even going to ask if she's okay. Unless she start screaming. Or is three hours late returning to camp." Even when she's on monitor duty, if there's a thud of unknown origin, other team members have been known to shout in unison, "Did you just fall out of your chair?" (For the record, no, she did not.)

Part time Team member Tyler, who connects with child spirits, needs to hurry up and get his narrow behind back from Minnesota.

Back to Bigfoot. This site required special consideration as far as equipment due to the enormity of area covered. We set up base camp, employing our generator that is equipped with an inverter to protect our electronics.

Multiple strategically placed infrared floodlights illuminated the entire area around base, which included the actual spot of one sighting. Stationary Infra red video cameras with audio were fed directly to the DVR and left running while three teams set out on foot along trails once darkness fell.

Day and night, each of us wore or carried full spectrum POV video cameras (think Go Pro capable of recording in daylight, OR darkness under infrared floodlights). They're great for recording temperature changes, electrical flux of MEL meters, and light changes on the K-II's, as well as providing another source of audio to double check against the hand held recorders. We do all we can to verify or debunk sounds or any visual anomalies that are encountered. Camouflaged motion activated game cameras with self-contained IR floods were set along trails or in remote spots we hiked to, each unit capable of recording still photographs, or video from thirty seconds to three minutes in length, in both natural and infrared light.

We used the FLIR unit during night hikes, not only in anticipation of possibly filming Bogfoot, but also for advance warning if a vicious, better than 400 pound wild boar we'd been cautioned to be on the lookout for came close--trail cam photos show he has fiv-to-six inch "cutters", the bottom tusks used to rip victims open, eviscerating and killing them. We were glad to have the protection of team members with weapons training, and who carried high power side arms in the event that boar charged from the brush. Paranormal investigations aren't for the meek. They aren't always safe, and they sure aren't glamorous as they appear on TV. There is hard work, attention to detail, and vast amounts of sweat equity involved.

Then after investigating comes the study of everything recorded, audio'd, photographed, or collected. That takes time and patience, but when we find something, it's worth all the work! Keep checking our Paranormal Evidence page at http://www.mgcparanormal.org/paranormal-evidence.html, because we caught some exciting evidence out in those woods! We're setting up the reveal session with the property owner, and once we have permission we will share with you a few of the things we found.

About that buzzard....

After we packed up camp and loaded the vehicles, our convoy headed for home. As we traveled along the highway a lone buzzard came flying straight toward the trucks, laboring to carry a large piece of road kill. Don't know if he couldn't gain enough altitude to avoid the trucks, carrying weight like he was, or if it was a deliberate bombing. But he let go of his "baggage", and whatever it used to be thumped and skidded along the top passenger side of Bobbie's SUV.  Left a very past tense, chunky trail of blood and gore. There was much gagging and squealing of "Ewwww!"

Thank goodness for the car wash. And teenage sons (who will forever hate that particular piece of punish work! LOL)

See, I TOLD you paranormal investigations aren't always safe...but we have to admit none of us expected a buzzard attack. lol

Until next time, happy Ghost/Bigfoot/UFO/Urban Legend hunting!

From the entire Team at MGCParanormal

PS: We'll be at Geek-O-Nomicon December 11-12-13 in Biloxi, MS! Great family oriented Con, and we'd love to meet you! We'll be sharing what we do and some of the evidence we've collected from various cases.

A Few New Paranormal Tools for the Group!

A Few New Paranormal Tools for the Group!

The better the tools, the better the evidence. And MGCParanormal is lucky enough to have a few new tools added to their equipment!

Terry and Chris are the equipment researchers. When they talk techie it can make the eyes of an avid electronics enthusiast glaze over. Since it's above our level of understanding most of the rest of the group just nod at what we hope are appropriate times and make agreeing noises.

The initial improvement they made when we first formed our group was in acquiring a high grade DVR system capable of recording video AND audio. That meant we were able to finally add high end infrared video cameras....with audio! Now we have the capability of capturing multiple forms of evidence in real time. The guys procured heavy duty shielded cables to prevent electrical interference with video signal to ensure evidence wasn't compromised.

One of our DVR's
Video and audio connections

There are equipment pieces we use regularly that I don't want to leave out. All are important, and all have their particular use.

Laser grid pen and tripod. Throws multiple laser patterns on walls or open spaces to clearly delineate shadows or figures moving in the area. Small piece of equipment but extremely effective for capturing evidence!

Example of our infrared video cameras. We currently have 16+.

Hand held video camera with self-contained Infrared flood light. Great for indoors or outdoors!

Parabolic recorder. We have used it to lock in on and record residual rhythmic Native American drumbeats echoing through a remote area. We've also captured ghostly conversation and laughter.

Small, yet powerful, Infrared lights for working in rooms, attics, or basements.

Dowsing rods; a simple piece of equipment, yet they have been used for centuries to find water and lost items, and now employed by paranormal investigators to acquire answers to questions during EVP and EVA sessions.

We all have and use full spectrum POV'S, great hands-free video/audio cameras that capture things as they happen when used with head or chest harness. Benefit of full spectrum GoPro-like's is these cameras record the full spectrum of light...gives us a much wider range for video evidence; we can record in daylight and full darkness with portable infrared lights. The infrared floodlights we employ allow for large areas to be illuminated with infrared light (invisible to human eye in darkness). We have enough of them to light up to a length of 800 feet. The POV's have added real depth to our investigations as well as multiple reactions and perspectives. It makes a huge difference in appeal when we can add personal interaction to our evidence videos. We also employ Trail Cameras. Motion activated, self-illuminating with Infrared flood lights, these units capture videos of up to three minutes or still photographs. Invaluable tools in ceneteries, remote areas, or on large properties such as plantations!

Full Spectrum GoPro-like POV's with head strap

Examples of our Infrared flood lights for full IR illumination of outdoor areas.

We invested in a super quiet generator (Sorry, no pic!) with an all important inverter -- the inverter is necessary to protect sensitive electronic equipment. The generator allows us to not only use high power IR flood lights to illuminate unexplored areas or sites rarely traversed, but to also record entire investigations in those extremely remote areas--like on our Bigfoot hunts! We also utilize a military grade night vision monocular, great for remote areas, or for large properties.

Military grade night vision monocular. Great spotting tool while sweeping an area!

Here are two of our three Trail Cameras. Motion activated and self-illuminated with infrared flood lights, we're able to set to them acquire individual photos or videos of up to three minutes. We use these in cemeteries, along remote trails, or on large properties such as plantations.

But here are a few really cool new toys, uh, I mean tools that have recently been added thanks to Terry, his wife Deb, Chris, and Bobbie.

We now have a FLIR! (Thank you, Terry!) There should be multiple exclamation points if you consider the credibility this one tool adds to evidence collection. It's a handheld thermal imaging unit that videos, or takes still frame photos. We used it during a Bigfoot hunt in north Mississippi, and it was amazing. (No, we didn't get a video of Bigfoot, though we did get audio of whoops and wood knocks. Even though the FLIR wasn't initially purchased for such duty, it did help us avoid a vicious, better than 400 pound wild boar we'd been warned about in the area. Having a few capable marksmen in the group--in the event we'd been charged by it in the dark--made us all feel safer. We'll be headed out for another hunt there soon!)  Love the fact this FLIR unit can be set to "read" the levels of heat and cold in your surroundings in gray scale or in color. Even minute changes in temperature are easily discerned. Evidence with this lovely item is irrefutable! It was expensive, so much so that I got nervous holding it. (Both times I did I found myself spending more time worrying about tripping, planning how I could fling my body between the FLIR and the ground so it wouldn't get damaged, than watching the screen for evidence. Good thing that baby records! LOL) We also employ a second thermal recording device called a SEEK unit, similar to the FLIR. Small and extremely portable it's a great tool.

How well does it work? We captured evidence in a local museum with it! Check out the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfO5irk0x2A

FLIR unit and laptop for recording
Example of FLIR in action

The SEEK. Our second thermal unit is extremely portable...and accurate while recording!

The guys then studied audio techniques, and Chris added some new audio recording technology that uses actual sound waves, rather than digital. Much clearer EVA's and EVP's with these units. Sorry I don't have a pic.  Will add one later! I do have a sample of the multi-directional recorders we use.
Examples of some of our recorders. Note multi-directional microphone to fully capture EVA's and EVP's.

Deb, Terry's wife, recently added three MEL Meters to the groups tools. These units collect and display EMF levels and temperature simultaneously, and being more sensitive, do so much more accurately. Flux in electromagnetic fields can be measured in particularly fine increments with this tool, and helps us see the building increase or ebbing decrease as it happens. Much more credible to document changes with. Added bonus? It frees us of having to juggle multiple tools to get necessary readings. We still use K-II's on occasion. The lights are convenient for recording video, and kids love to use them! Again, I think it's something about the lights. They're inexpensive enough we can let them handle them to their hearts' content! Nurturing future paranormal investigators is important to MGCParanormal.

MEL meter--GREAT step up from K-II's!

K-II unit--not nearly as accurate for measuring EMF's, but the lights really pop on video and lend to great visual effects.

I admit it. I begged, bugged, pleaded, even became downright obnoxious in my appeals to Terry to research REM-PODS. He drug his heels in, hard, so I brought out the big guns.... I sicced his wife on him. LOL He liked what he learned about them, so he added a REM-POD to our equipment! (Terry texted it had arrived, and my Hubby accused him of turning me into a kangaroo. We all show our enthusiasm differently, right? Right!) We now have a single piece of equipment that can be placed in the area of suspected paranormal activity, that detects changes in its immediate surroundings, and can visually and audibly signal those changes. It measures increase or decrease in air temp, EMF flux, vibrations, shadows...then produces a unique light or audio signal to alert us of a particular change. The beauty of this tool is it allows us to record any such changes on video and audio as they occur.

REM-POD. Wonderful in action! Allows us to leave a room (or not!) and be able to record any activity.

Bobbie has been wanting an effective "trigger item" for child spirits. (A trigger item is an item relevant to a spirit's age or era. If we suspect an old mariner is haunting a place, we will set out a sextant and dumpy level, tools of his trade, to make him comfortable and entice him near.) Bobbie found the Boo Buddy, a paranormal investigation tool disguised as a teddy bear, and purchased him. This plush teddy bear would appeal to any child, and has built in sensors that alert by his saying things like "Oh, I'm a little cold!" if there is a temperature drop. He also lights up when there is a measurable change in EMF's surrounding him. He's already affectionately been dubbed "B3PO". To demonstrate how excited Bobbie was about trying him out, when he was delivered she instructed Terry to "Test him! Stick him in the refrigerator and see if he says anything!"

Never fear, Boo Buddy is here!

We're constantly studying new and better technology to see what else we need to add to do the best paranormal investigating possible. Okay, Terry and Chris are. But they have added so many amazing and effective tools that the rest of us are going to keep on nodding and making agreeing noises!

Here's haunting you until next time!

The McNutt House in Vicksburg, MS

Sometimes MGCP does more than just investigate. Sometimes we're lucky enough just to have some fun!

Earlier this year held a double adventure for MGCParanormal.org

Not only were we invited to accompany Geek-O-Nomicon 2015 to the Twisted Carnival Red Carpet Event, the screening of indi film THE DOCUMENTARY OF OZBO THE EVIL CLOWN, an additional treat was that the screening was held at The McNutt House, reputedly THE most haunted house in Vicksburg, MS!
MGCParanormal Team Members Lois and Deb with Ozbo the Evil Clown

MGCParanormal.org actually spent the night inside the McNutt House, where we privately investigated the stories of its haunting!
Some of the cast and participants at OZBO'S Red Carpet Event
Zombie CEO Ian, repping Geek-O-Nomicon 2015
Steampunk well represented!

While there we had a great visit with Lost History Paranormal of Vicksburg, MS. We want to send a special shout out to Tre, one of their members, for the wonderful welcome he gave us. MGCP Team Members Bobbie and Lois loved  investigating with him as the resident child ghost, Maggie, revealed herself at her favorite play spot! We got some cool hits with the K-II's and temp guns in answer to questions during EVP sessions, and MGCP Team Member Terry captured some great evidence with the thermal video cam during the late night investigation in the house itself!

Julie of Geek-O-Nomicon 2015 participated in that indoor session, and we thoroughly enjoyed her assistance. Even if one of the resident ghosts made its way through our rooms, one by one, startling us awake early the next morning ....

Julie also had her own encounter during a scheduled public investigation that involved the Civil War soldier whose grave is in the McNutt House courtyard , with photographic evidence!

MGCParanormal Team Member Deb kept us all organized. But we admit to doing anything to be on the receiving end of that smile!
MGCP Team Member Deb keeping us organized!

We even got to ride on a float during Vicksburg's Mardi Gras celebration. That float won a trophy for Best Throws thanks to Martha of MGCParanormal providing a massive quantity of beads, Julia and Ian of Geek-O-Nomicon 2015 providing cool frisbee throws, wrist bangles, and beads, and Lois providing genuine Voodoo dolls! The crowd loved everything that came their way! (If you want your own Voodoo Blessing Doll visit our on line store! http://www.mgcparanormal.org/mgcparanormal-store.html) Enjoy a couple more pictures of our time there. You can tell we had fun.

Yes, MGCParanormal is going back to do a private, in depth investigation! McNutt House is definitely going to be included in our book of southern haunted places!

Will Paranormal Investigation Ever Become a Recognized Science?

PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION AND SCIENCE

Paranormal investigation has long been considered a "fringe" effort, and hardly a science. Add to that the negativity of show hounds out to sensationalize and take 'hooey' to an entirely new level---no matter how entertaining it may be---their actions haven't done serious investigators any favors.

We are in no way disparaging those out there with true gifts; they exist and do much to aid us at times. An example of the unhelpful type would be those in the company of ones who tell visitors to Marie Leveau's tomb to "make a wish, spin around three times, spit, knock three times, then kick Marie's vault five times".  Kick someone's resting place?? Really? Not a single word of that ridiculous instruction is based on Marie's Voodoo practices. And how would they feel if strangers spent the day clustered around  the family grave site, impersonating Whirling Dervishes, spitting, banging, and kicking their mother's tombstone? Have to admit a part of me gleefully fantasizes a scenario where Marie jumps out and kicks them back five times. Then once more for good measure. Now THAT would be nine kinds of entertaining!

It's that type of utter disrespect toward the deceased that raises our ire. It pushes us to remain professional, respectful, and employ logical testing processes to debunk or prove what we find.

In recent years paranormal investigation is slowly being aided by the realm of science in the form of technical tools, and with these tools is gaining credibility. When people come at me with derision or denigration, I remind them of Ptolemy and Galileo. Ptolemy was the mathematician who first put forth the theory of the galaxy and rotation of the planets in set orbits around a single celestial body.  Brilliant fellow, Ptolemy. And he almost had it right.

But then came Galileo who had the nerve to suggest our galaxy revolved around the sun, rather than the planets revolving around our Earth as Ptolemy’s theory set forth. (We sure are a self-important bunch, aren’t we?) Poor ol’ Galileo suddenly found himself imprisoned by the Church for heresy. Had to be rough on the old boy to serve prison time, particularly with his being right. All the while publicly labeled a non-believer and heretic by the Pope. Now we would never in a million years compare our efforts or ourselves to Galileo. We only wish we had his mental capacity. But if such a misunderstanding could happen with someone as brilliant as him, it could happen in other situations. All we ask is that you keep an open mind. Knowledge increases every day; even if it makes us uncomfortable at first

And I can’t help it, that whole Ptolemy and Galileo thing keeps hovering at the back of my mind . . . .

Is there another ghostly world around us? We investigate because we want to find out.

Happy ghost hunting from all of us at MGCP!
